What to do if the computer cannot start properly (no picture appears on the computer screen after pressing the power switch)?

    The computer cannot start properly (no picture is displayed on the computer screen after pressing the power switch).

              The Sony logo (or VAIO logo) is not showing up on the the computer screen after plugging the computer into a electric socket and pressing the power switch.

              When Operating System is running, the computer fails to restart successfully because the power is forced to cut off due to some issues such as a system hang.



    Check if the power indicator of the VAIO is on or off.
    >> Off
    >> On


    On:
    Check the color of VAIO power indicator.
    >> Orange or blinking
    >> Green or blue


    Orange or blinking:
    It is possible that the computer may be in Power Saving Mode.
    If the power indicator is Orange, it means the computer is in Standby or Power Saving Mode.
    Confirm whether restoration can be done from power saving mode by pressing any key or removing the mouse.

    Note
    If the following steps are carried out, any unsaved data will probably be lost.
    If the computercannot resume from the Power Saving Mode, please cut off power first. Meanwhile, confirm whether the computer screen can display properly after restarting the PC.
    Hold the power button of the computerfor more than four seconds to shut the system down forcefully.

    >> Windows still cannot start.


    Green or blue:
    If the power indicator of the VAIO is Green (blue), please try to shut down the computer forcefully, and then restart the computer. If Windows still cannot start, please refer to the following related information to perform operations.



    Off:
    Are the power cables connected correctly?
    Please reconnect the power adapter or power cable (battery) if the connection is loose.
    In addition, please ensure again the power connection of the VAIO and peripheral power socket.
    >> Windows still cannot start.


    Please perform the following operations.
    1. Please unplug power adapter and power cable and wait for one minute to re-plug them.

    2. After that, check if the the computercan start properly.
    >> Windows still cannot start.


    Please confirm the indicator on the power adapter.
    Please ensure the indicator is green.
    ※The shapes of power adapters and colors of indicators may vary for different models.







    If the indicator on the power adapter is off, it is possible that the VAIO or power adapter have problems.
    Please send the computer to the Sony service center for more details.

    >> Off


    Please replace socket of peripheral power.
    If possible, please plug the power adapter into a wall socket to check whether the the computer can start properly.
    Important notes before using special sockets of office automation devices.
    • Whether special sockets of office automation devices have power switches.
      If there is, please confirm whether the switch is on.
    • Please confirm whether it exceeds the rated current required. Please confirm whether the the computer can start properly, and then pull out plugs of other electrical appliances and  try again.
    In addition, this symptom is caused by unstable voltage or using non-standard power.
    If the above symptom is related with power voltage, please contact local power supply bureau or power company for more details.
    >> Windows still cannot start.


    Please confirm if the power adapter and battery is compatible with the computer.
    Please confirm if the power adapter, battery and power cables being used are supplied with the computer and are compatible with the computer.
    If the power devices being used are incompatible with the computer, the computer may not start properly, or the computer hardware may have errors.
    Please stop using incomptible power devices.
    >> Windows still cannot start.


    Please unload peripheral and updated hardware devices that are connected to the computer.
    If the computer connects to printer, other peripherals, such as USB device, or hardware devices, such as updated memory, please unplug all peripherals and remove updated hardware devices. Then, confirm whether the computer can start properly.
    >> Windows still cannot start.

    There may be issues with the computer.
    If Windows still cannot start after performing all the above steps, please send to Sony service center for further troubleshooting.
