How to start the VAIO computer in safe mode in Windows XP?

Starting the VAIO computer in safe mode in Windows XP.

    Safe Mode is a special diagnostic mode to solve problems when Windows cannot start properly.
    Under Safe Mode, there is a limited number of services started. Thus, some devices or system functions cannot work properly.
    In addition, Display Resolutions will decrease and the displayed color quality will also be limited.

    Windows cannot start in Normal Mode
    Windows can start in Normal Mode





    Windows cannot start in Normal Mode

    1. Please shut down the VAIO computer.

    2. Restart the VAIO computer, and then press F8 continuously after the VAIO icon appears.

      If the VAIO computer is unable to start after pressing F8, please press F5 continuously as soon as the VAIO computer starts.

    3. When the Windows Advanced Options Menu dialogue box appears, please select Safe Mode, and then click Enter.



      Remark
      It is possible that the the VAIO computer displays Please select boot device: rather than Windows Advanced Options Menu. It’s normal as different models have different information to display.



      When the Please select boot device: dialogue box appears, please press Esc and then immediately press F8.

    4. When you see Please select the operating system to start:, select Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition or Microsoft Windows XP Professional, and then press Enter.



    5. In the log-on page, click the user name you want to log on.

    6. After the Safe Mode warning information appears on the Desktop, click Yes.

      Windows runs under Safe Mode.


       

    7. If Safe Mode in all four corners of the screen, it means that the computer has successfully started in Safe Mode.

    Remark
    If you want to return to Normal Mode, please select Start-Shut Down-Restart to restart the VAIO computer.






    Windows can start in Normal Mode

    1. Turn the computer power on and start Windows.

    2. Click Start, and then click Run.

    3. Type msconfig in Run, and then click OK.

    4. Click the BOOT.INI option card.

    5. Check /SAFEBOOT in Boot Options and click OK.

    6. When the System Configuration dialogue box appears, click Restart to reboot the computer.

    7. In the log-on page, click the user name you want to use to log on.

    8. After Safe Mode warning information appears on the Desktop, click Yes.

      Windows runs under Safe Mode.

    9. If Safe Mode in all four corners of the screen, it means that the computer has successfully started in Safe Mode .
    Note
    You set Safe Mode as a default boot-in mode to start the computer.

    1. Click Start, and then click Run.

    2. Type msconfig in Run, and then click OK.

    3. Click the BOOT.INI option card.

    4. Uncheck /SAFEBOOT in Boot Options, and then click OK.

    5. When the System Configuration dialogue box appears, click Restart to reboot the computer.
