Can Memory Stick PRO be used?

Using Memory Stick PRO with the above models.

To use Memory Stick PRO with the above models, please download the Memory Stick PRO Firmware Update Program.

Note: Some restrictions may apply even after installing the firmware update.
1. The high transfer rate of Memory Stick PRO is not supported in current VAIO computers.
2. Recording and playback of music files that uses the MagicGate technology of Memory Stick PRO is not available.
3. Formatting Memory Stick PRO requires a special formatter program. Using of Windows formatting coomand is not supported.

Note:
- Please use a readable/writable Memory Stick for firmware update. The Memory Stick media that can be used for this update are MagicGate Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo, and Memory Stick with Memory Select function. All capacity sizes are supported.

Installation Overview
i. Install the Memory Stick PRO Firmware Update Program
ii. Update the firmware of the Memory Stick Slot

1. Download the Memory Stick PRO Firmware Update Program file to a temporary or download directory. (Please note this directory for reference). Access the directory and double-click to extract the files.

2. Double-Click MS FW Update Tool.exe to begin the installation.


3. When InstallShield Wizard Complete dialogue box appears, click Finish.

Now you have completed the installation of Memory Stick PRO Firmware Update Program successfully.

4. To update the firmware of the Memory Stick Slot, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Memory Stick Slot Firmware Update Tool and click Memory Stick Slot Firmware Update Tool.


5. An Advanced dialogue box will appear. Please insert a normal Memory Stick into the Memory Stick Slot. (Do NOT insert using Memory Stick PRO into the slot). Click OK.

Note: Please make a copy of the contents in the Memory Stick, all data will be deleted.

6. Click OK when About Writing Data dialogue box appears.


7. Click OK when Confirm dialogue box appears.


8. The program will starts copying the necessary files onto the Memory Stick.

Note:Do not remove the Memory Stick.

9. After all data had been copy to the Memory Stick, a Write Protect Setting dialogue box will appears.


10. Follow the instructions to remove the Memory Stick and set the Memory Stick's Write Protect Switch to Lock and reinsert it into the Memory Stick Slot. Click OK.


11. Click OK when Shutdown dialogue box appears.

Note:Do not remove the Memory Stick.

12. After computer had completely shut down. Wait for 5 seconds and turn on the computer. After the computer had restarts, a Start dialogue box appears.


13. Follow the instructions to remove the Memory Stick and disable the Memory Stick's Write Protect function. Reinsert the Memory Stick and click OK.

14. After the formatting of the Memory Stick had completed, a Update succeeded dialogue box will appears. Click OK.


15. The Memory Stick PRO Firmware Update Program has successfully completed. The VAIO Computer is ready for accessing Memory Stick PRO media.
