How to perform a search in Windows 8.
You can perform a search in the Windows 8 operating system using the Search feature.
By using the Search feature you can search for Desktop and Start screen apps, Settings or Files.
NOTE: The Search feature can also be used to search within individual apps. For example, if you invoke Search from within the Music app it will automatically search your songs by default.
To search for Apps, simply begin typing. The Search - Apps screen will automatically open and the operating system will return a list of results and make suggestions based on the text you have type.
NOTE: The Windows Logo + Q key combination will also take you to the Search - Apps screen.
To search for a Setting:
- Point to (but do not click) the lower-right or top-right corner of the screen, and then click to select Search.
NOTE: The Windows Logo + C key combination will also open the charms.
- In the Search screen, click the Settings category, and then enter the name or type of setting you want to find.
- The operating system will return a list of results and make suggestions based on the text you have type.
NOTE: The Windows Logo + W key combination will also take you to the Search - Setting screen.
To search for Files:
- Point to (but do not click) the lower-right or top-right corner of the screen, and then click to select the Search icon.
NOTE: The Windows Logo + C key combination will also open the charms.
- In the Search screen, click the Files category, and then enter the name of the file you want to find.
- The operating system will return a list of results and make suggestions based on the text you have type.
NOTE: The Windows Logo + F key combination will also take you to the Search - Files screen.
