The message "Read error" appears frequently (Android 8.0 or lower)

The Read error message may appear if NFC is enabled and your Xperia device is in contact with another device or object that responds to NFC, such as a credit card, NFC tag or metro card. To prevent this message from appearing, turn off the NFC function when you don't need to use it.

Android 8.0

To turn off the NFC function

1. Find and tap Settings > Device connection.
2. Tap the switch beside NFC.

Android 5.1, 6.0, 7.0, 7.1 or 7.1.1

To turn off the NFC function

1. From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
2. Find and tap Settings > More.
3. Tap the switch beside NFC.

Android 5.0

To turn off the NFC function

1. From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
2. Find and tap Settings > More....
3. Tap the switch beside NFC.

Android 4.2, 4.3 or 4.4

To turn off the NFC function

1. From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
2. Find and tap Settings > More....
3. Unmark the NFC checkbox.
