How do I change the default application for an action?

When performing a task on your Xperia device, such as opening a photo or tapping a link, you may receive a prompt to complete the action using a specific application. When you have selected an application, you have to choose either Always or Just once before the relevant application opens to complete the action. If you select Always, the selected application becomes the default application for the particular task.

If you want to change the default application for the task, you must clear the default settings.

Android 8.0

To clear the default settings for an application

1. From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
2. Find and tap Settings > Apps & notifications > App info.
3. Find and tap the application for which you want to clear the default settings.
4. Tap Open by default > CLEAR DEFAULTS.

Android 6.0 or 7.0

To clear the default settings for an application

1. From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
2. Find and tap Settings > Apps.
3. Find and tap the application for which you want to clear the default settings.
4. Tap Open by default > CLEAR DEFAULTS.

Android 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 5.0 or 5.1

To clear the default settings for an application

1. From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
2. Find and tap Settings > Apps.
3. Swipe to the All tab.
4. Find and select the application for which you want to clear the default settings.
5. Tap Clear defaults.
