How to perform system restore in Windows XP?

    Performing a System Restore.
    System Restore is a built-in funtion in Windows XP Professional.
    User can use System Restore to revert the computer to the previous status without losing personal data, such as Microsoft Word Documents, History, Drawing, Favorites, or E-mail.
    Windows XP creates restore points at the time of significant system events (such as when an application or driver is installed). Users can restore their computer to its previous status by choosing a particular restore point.

    Note
    It is possible that the drivers or software that were previously installed are inaccessible after using System Restore.
    Please note that the drivers may need to be repaired or software may need to be reinstalled.

    The hard disk will not be complete after performing a System Restore; the system will become unstable and lose data if a System Restore is not performed.
    Please backup important data before performing System Restore.
    Sony will not take responsibility for symptoms, such as data loss after a System Restore, etc.

    In addition, when perform a System Restore, database of OpenMG Jukebox and SonicStage cannot be used because of different restore points.
    Please backup data of OpenMG Jukebox and SonicStage by using backup tools to avoid the issue described above.

    In additon, it is possible that System Restore cannot restore printer driver.
    If this is the case, open Driver of (Printer Name) and choose the last installed driver in Driver of Advanced and click OK.

    To perform System Restore, please refer to the information below.

    • Requirements of System Restore.
      To perform a System Restore, hard disk (partition of Windows system document) should have at least 200MB of free space.

    • Protection of personal files.
      To protect data files, such as document, report, etc., System Restore  is not able to restore files that are saved in My Documents.
      Files which have extensions such as .doc, .xls, ect. can not be restored.

    • Location of System Restore.
      The restore points should be saved in the folders below.

      C:\WINDOWS\system32\Restore




    ■ How to perform a System Restore?
    1. Click Start→All Programs→AccessoriesSystem Tools, and then click System Restore.

    2. Click Restore my computer to an earlier time after Welcome to System Restore displays, and then click Next.

      Note:
      Two options may appear in Welcome to System Restore when using System Restore ro the first time.

      • Restore my computer to an earlier time.
      • Create a restore point.



    3. Click restore points available in calendar when Select a Restore Point appears, and then click Next.
      ※ Restore points available in the following calendar displays in bold.



    4. Please confirm the date and type of a restore point when Confirm Restore Point Selection appears, and then click Next.

    5. Users can perform a Perform a System Restore when System Restore appears.

    6. Restoration Complete will appear after the computer is restarted.
      Click OK.
    ■ Create a restore point.
    1. Click Start→All Programs→AccessoriesSystem Tools,, and then click System Restore.

    2. Click Create a restore point when Welcome to System Restore appears, and then click Next.



    3. Type any word in Restore point description when Create a Restore Point appears, and then click Create.



    4. Restore Point Created appears.
      Confirm the date of the new restore point and click Close to complete creating the restore point.
    ■ How to delete a restore point?
    1. Click Start→All Programs→Accessories→System Tools, and then click System Restore.

    2. Click Undo my last restoration when Welcome to System Restore appears, and then click Next.



    3. Confirm the date and type of restore point when Confirm Restoration Undo appears, and then click Next.



    4. Cancel the restore point when System Restore appears.

    5. The computer will be automatically restarted. Upon restarting, Undo Complete is displayed. Click OK to close this screen.
