Why users should not shut down PC in Windows XP when Windows is installing updates?

    The computer still can not be turned off after waiting for a while. Please confirm whether hard disk is working and try the following solutions to troubleshoot the issue.

    ■ Hard disk is working.
    ■ Hard disk is not working.






    Hard disk is working.


    Please wait for some time until the computer is automatically turned off.
    Please note that if user forcefully shuts down the system, problems such as Windows can't be started may appear.



    Hard disk is not working.


    Install the updated programs again after restarting.
    Please try the following operations.


    The updates and update screen displayed vary for different running environments.
    Such as below.
    1. Forcefully shut down the computer by holding and pressing the power switch for over four seconds.

      Note
      If the computer has been forcefully shut down when hard disk is not working, problems such as Windows can't be started may appear.

    2. Plug the computer into an electrical outlet.

    3. Connect the computer to a network.

    4. Click Start, and then click All Programs-Windows Update.

    5. On the page of Windows Update, click Review your update history under options on the left column.

    6. Confirm if there is any Failure item displaying on the Status Bar. After that, close the Review your update history page.


      When displaying the Failure items, please cancel the recorded starting serial number from the place where has Update Names of ProgramsKB.

    7. Open Add or Remove Programs via Control Panel.


    8. After that, please put a mark on the checkbox Show updates.

    9. When user is viewing the updates that were installed, confirm if there is any Failure program using step six.


      If the Failure program doesn't display after completing step six, please proceed to step 12.

    10. Remove the program that displays as Failure in step six.

    11. Close Add or Remove Programs.

    12. Click Start, and then click All Programs-Windows Update.

    13. Click Express.

    14. Then install updates.
