Thank you for your continued interest in Sony products.
Sony is always concerned about customer satisfaction and therefore is offering a software upgrade program for Mount Adaptor "LA-EA1".
Improvements after firmware upgrade
- Support for the autofocus function when A-mount lens is attached to the camera.
The following SAM lenses and SSM lenses are supported.

* With an A-mount lens attached, the autofocus speed will be slower than when an E-mount lens is attached. (It takes approximately 2 to 7 seconds (based on Sony’s measurement standard). It may vary depending on the subjects or brightness of the shooting environments.)
* Firmware upgrade of the Interchangeable Lens Digital Camera NEX-3, NEX-5 (sold separately) is also required.

Mount Adaptor "LA-EA1" with firmware version "Ver.01"
How to check the firmware version
- Attach the mount adaptor and the A-mount lens to the camera, then turn on the camera.
- Select Menu → Setup → Version on the camera.
- The firmware version is displayed. If your firmware version is Ver.02 or later, the upgrade is not required.

- Mac OS® X v.10.5 – 10.6
* The 64-bit kernel is not supported.

- CPU: Intel® processor
- Hard disk space: 200MB or more
- RAM: 256 MB or more
Please close all other application software before upgrading the firmware.

Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50 or AC adaptor AC-PW20 (sold separately)
Note: The upgrade can be performed only when the remaining battery level is (three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery or the AC adaptor AC-PW20 (sold separately).

Details
IMPORTANT:
- When performing the firmware upgrade, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50 or the AC adaptor AC-PW20 (sold separately).
- Do not remove the battery or AC adaptor during the upgrade; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
Start Firmware Updater
- Double-click the downloaded file LA-EA1V2_Update1011a.dmg
Do not connect the camera yet at this point.
- Double-click the LA-EA1V2_Update1011a icon which appears on the Desktop.
- Double-click the FirmwareUpdater icon.
- To load a kernel extension, the message prompts you to allow the application to make changes.
Type the password for the administrative account.
- Firmware Updater starts up.
- Attach the mount adaptor and the A-mount lens to the camera, then turn on the camera.
- Check the USB connection mode
Select Menu → Setup → USB Connection on the camera, and confirm Mass Storage is selected.
- Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
Note: When the camera is connected to the computer, the LCD screen of the camera turns off. Please proceed to the next step.
- Click Next on Firmware Updater.
Figure 4 appears on Firmware Updater and Figure 5 appears on the LCD screen of the camera.

Note: From this step onwards, never turn off the camera until the firmware upgrade is completed.
- After confirming the screens on Figures 4 and 5, click Next. The current version and the version after the upgrade appear on the lower left part of the screen.
- After confirming Current version is Ver.1, click Next.

Note: If Current version is Ver.2, the upgrade is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click Finish. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, and then turn on the camera again.
- The screen below appears.
- Press the center of the control wheel to reset the camera.

Note: The screen turns off when the center of the control wheel is pressed. Please proceed to the next step.
- After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the screen on Figure 11 appears. Click Run to transfer the upgrade firmware data.
The progress bar appears while transferring (approximately 10 seconds).

Note: Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while upgrading.
- When the upgrade is completed, the screen on Figure 12 appears. Click Finish and disconnect the USB cable.

- The updating procedure will start, and Figure 13 will be displayed. The progress bar appears while upgrading.

- When the upgrade is completed, the screen on Figure 14 appears.
Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, and then turn on the camera again.

Check the firmware version
- Select Menu → Setup → Version on the camera.
- The firmware version is displayed. The firmware upgrade was completed successfully if Ver.02 is displayed.
