Sony is offering a firmware upgrade for Interchangeable Lens Digital HD Video Camera Recorder NEX-VG10.
Improvements after firmware upgrade
- To be compatible with Mount Adaptor LA-EA2.
- Additions of the Peaking function at manual focus mode

Applicable firmware version
NEX-VG10 with firmware version Ver.02 or earlier.
How to check the firmware version
- Select Menu → Setup → Version on the camera.
- The firmware version is displayed. If the firmware version is Ver.03 or later, the upgrade is not required

Install
Details
IMPORTANT:
- When performing the firmware upgrade, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FV70 or NP-FV100 (sold separately) or the AC adaptor AC-PW10AM .
- Do not remove the battery or AC adaptor during the upgrade; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
- Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
Start Firmware Updater
- Double-click the downloaded file NEX-VG10V3_Update1112a.dmg.
Note: Do not connect the camera yet at this point.
- Double-click the NEX-VG10V3_Update1112a icon which appears on the Desktop.
- Double-click the FirmwareUpdater icon.
- To load a kernel extension, the message prompts you to allow the application to make changes. Type the password for the administrative account.
- Firmware Updater starts up.
- Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
Note: When the camera is connected to the computer, the LCD screen of the camera turns off. Please proceed to the next step.
- Click Next on Firmware Updater.
Figure 1 appears on Firmware Updater and Figure 2 appears on the LCD screen of the camera.

Note: From this step onwards, never turn off the camera until the firmware upgrade is completed.
- After confirming the screens on Figures 1 and 2, click Next. The current version and the version after the upgrade appear on the lower left part of the screen.

Note: If Current version is Ver.3, the upgrade is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click Finish. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor and then turn on the camera again.
- The screen below appears.
- Press the center of the control wheel to reset the camera.

Note: The screen turns off when the center of the control wheel is pressed. Please proceed to the next step.
- Click Next on Firmware Updater.

- After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified and the screen below appears.
- Click Run to start the upgrade. The progress bar appears while upgrading (approximately 5 minutes).
Note: Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while upgrading.
- When the upgrade is completed, the screen on Figure 8 appears. Click Finish and disconnect the USB cable.
Check the firmware version
- Select Menu → Setup → Version on the camera.
- The firmware version is displayed. The firmware upgrade was completed successfully if Ver.03 is displayed.
