Sony is offering a software update for Interchangeable E-Mount Lenses “SEL2470Z”, “SEL55F18Z”, “SEL70200G” and “SEL2870”.

Improvements: 

  • This update provides the “Quick starting” function.

    Notes: This Lens system software update is available in E-mount body.
    • Some models cannot be used for this update. (model list)
    • When using PXW-FS7M2, please follow the procedure according to the instruction manual of PXW-FS7M2.
    *Lens released after October 2014, (including lens SEL1635Z/SELP28135G) have the “Quick starting” function.

Check the System Software version

      Note: This update is intended for Lens that currenltly have a System Software version 01.

  1. Select Menu > Setup > Version on the camera.
  2. The Lens System Software version is displayed.

    Note: If you are using the QX series, start the Lens system software updater in the PC. You can check the Lens system software version by running the update.
  3. If current version is 02, update is not required.

    *Important:
    For macOS 10.13, please ensure the "DriverLoader_1013" has been installed before update your software.

  • CPU Intel Processor (Core Solo and Core Duo processors are no longer supported)
  • Hard disk space: 200MB or more
  • RAM: 512MB or more

    * Please close all other application software before updating the System Software.

  • USB cable supplied with the camera
    Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.
  • Power source for the camera
    Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50 or the AC Adaptor AC-PW20 (Sold Separately).
    Note: The upgrade can be performed only when the remaining battery level is (three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery.

Preparation Notes:

  • When performing the Lens system software update, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50 or the AC adaptor AC-PW20 (sold separately).
  • Do not remove the battery pack or AC adaptor during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
  • Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
  • Please make sure to attach the lens to the camera before performing the Lens system software update.
    *Before you attach the lens to the camera, please make sure to turn off the camera.

Important Notes:

  • This Lens system software update can be performed only when the lens is attached to the camera.
    *You cannot perform the Lens system software update using other camera.
  • Please make sure to attach the lens to the camera before performing the Lens system software update.

Install

Details

  1. Download the update file

    Click the file Update_SEL55F18ZV2D.dmg to begin download. Please save the downloaded file onto the Desktop of your computer (recommended).
  2. Start Lens System Software updater
    1. Double-click the downloaded file.
      *Do not connect the camera yet at this point.
    2. Double-click the updater icon which appears on the Desktop.
    3. Double-click the Lens system software Updater icon.
    4. To load a kernel extension, the message prompts you to allow the application to make changes. Type the password for the administrative account

    5. Lens System Software Updater starts up.

  3. Check the USB connection model

    1. Turn ON the camera.
       *If the camera has already been turned ON, turn it OFF and then turn it ON again.

    2. According to the instruction on Lens System Software Updater, select Menu > Setup (4) > USB Connection on the camera, and check if Mass Storage is selected. (If you are using the QX series, this step is not necessary) If the mode other than Mass Storage is selected, please select Mass Storage.

  4. Connect the camera to the computer

    Note: Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
    1. Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.

      Note: If an error message appears on the computer screen, please try the following methods.

      * Disconnect the USB cable from the camera, then reconnect the USB cable.
      * If there are another USB terminal with the computer, reconnect the USB cable to another USB terminal.
    2. Click Next on Lens System Software updater.  Figures below appears on Lens System Software updater, and on the screen display of the camera respectively.

      Note: From now on, never turn off the camera until the Lens system software update is completed. It might take a few minutes before the screen changes depending on the camera model.





      Notes:
      * When the message “The update is not available for your model.” appears on the screen, check if the Lens System Software Updater is the correct file for the lens which is attached to the camera. 
      * When the message above appears although the correct Lens System Software Updater is running, close the Lens System Software Updater, disconnect the USB cable, turn off the camera, and then go back to the step 2 “Start Lens System Software Updater”.
      * When the message “Could not find the camera with the lens for this update mounted.” appears on the screen, check if the camera is among the updatable model and if the camera is connected to the computer with USB cable.
  5. Check if update is required
    1. After confirming the screens above, click Next. The current version and the version after the update appear on the lower left part of the screen.
    2. Confirm Current version is Ver. 01 and click Next.

      Note: If the Current version is Ver. 02, the update is not required.  According to the message, stop the USB connection and click Finish.  Turn OFF the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, and then turn ON the camera again.

      *Update is required


      *Update is not required.
  6. Start the update
    1. Start transfer the Lens System Software. The progress bar appears while transferring data (approximately 5 seconds).



      Note: Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while updating.
    2. When transferring data is completed, the following screen appears. Click Finish.

    3. The update process starts and the progress bar is displayed on the camera screen. (approximately 30 seconds).

  7. Complete the update
    1. The update process is finished when the "Lens update complete." message is displayed on the camera screen. If you are using the QX series, the update process is finished when the screen of QX series disappears.

    2. Disconnect the USB cable.

      Note: After finishing the update, turn OFF the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, and then turn ON the camera again.
  8. Check the Lens System Software version

    Follow the instruction below to confirm the lens System software version is Ver. 02.
    Select Menu > Setup > Version on the camera.
    The Lens system software version is displayed.
