Thank you for your continued interest in Sony products.
Sony is offering a firmware update for Digital Still Camera (DSC-RX10).

Improvements:

  • Enables shooting 60p/30p/24p/120p movies in the XAVC-S format that supports high bit rates.


    For NTSC model* : (1920×1080) 60p/30p/24p (50Mbps), (1280×720) 120p (54Mbps)
    For PAL model : (1920×1080) 50p/25p (50Mbps), (1280×720) 100p (50Mbps), (1920×1080) 60p/30p/24p (50Mbps), (1280×720) 120p (50Mbps)

 

*When shooting a movie in the XAVC S format, ensure that an SDXC card of Class 10 or faster is used.

Check the firmware version

  1. Select Menu > Setup (6) > Version on the camera.
  2. The System Firmware version is displayed.
  3. If current version is 2.00, update is not required.

    * Please close all other application software before upgrading the firmware.

    Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.

    Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50.
    Note: The upgrade can be performed only when the remaining battery level is (three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery.

Important Notes:

  • When performing the system software update, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50.
  • Do not remove the battery during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
  • Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.

Install

Details

  1. Start Firmware Updater
    Download the file to your computer. Please save the downloaded file onto the Desktop of your computer (recommended).

    For Windows 8/Windows 8.1 users:
    Under the initial settings of Internet Explorer, the update file will be saved in the Downloads folder. Click the Desktop tile from the Start screen and find the downloaded file in the Downloads folder by using Explorer.
  2. Close all currently running programs on your computer.
    Double click Update_DSCRX10V200.exe to start up Firmware Updater.

  3. Check the USB connection mode
    1. Turn ON the camera.
    2. Select Menu > Setup (3) > USB Connection
    3. Select Mass Storage

  4. Connect the camera to the computer
    Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
  5. Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
    Note: When the camera is connected to the computer, the LCD monitor of the camera turns off. Please proceed to the next step.

    If the computer cannot find the camera, the message “ Could not find the camera for this update.” appears on the computer display. Try the following if this happens.
    - Disconnect the USB cable and connect it again.
    - If the computer has multiple USB terminals, try with the other terminals. (Your computer may have some USB terminals on the backside.)
  6. Confirm is displayed on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen.
  7. After confirming the above, click Next on Firmware Updater.

    Note: From this step onwards, never turn off the camera until the firmware upgrade is completed.
  8. Check if the updating is required
    1. After confirming the screens on the above steps, click Next.
      The current version and the version after the upgrade appear on the lower left part of the screen.

      If the screen below appears, the upgrade is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click Finish. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack, reinsert the battery pack, and then turn on the camera again.

    2. After confirming Current version is Ver. 1.00, click Next.
  9. Reset the camera
    1. Click on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen to stop the USB connection.

      Notes:
      - Please keep the USB cable connected even after stopping the USB connection on the computer with the above operation.

    2. Press the center of the control wheel to execute.





      Note: The screen turns off when the center of the control wheel is pressed. Please proceed to the next step.
    3. Click Next on Firmware Updater.

  10. Start the update
    1. After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the screen below appears.
    2. Click Run to start the upgrade. The progress bar appears while upgrading (approximately 15 minutes).



      Note: Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while upgrading.
  11. Complete the update
    When the upgrade is completed, the camera will restart automatically. "Recovering data. Please wait... " maybe be displayed for a few minutes before restarting. Make sure the camera is turned ON and wait until the LCD screen appears again. Click Finish when the LCD screen appears and disconnect the USB cable.

  12. Check the firmware version
    Follow the instruction to confirm the firmware version is Ver. 2.00.
    1. Press Menu > Setup (6) > Version on the camera.
    2. The System Firmware Ver. 2.00 is displayed.

  13. Initialize the camera.
    1. Select Menu > Setup (6) > Setting Reset > Initialize > OK on the camera
    2. Click OK again







Note: After the initialization, the camera will automatically restart. If the camera is not initialized, XAVC S recording may not be possible. In this case, it is recommended to remove the battery pack, and then reinstert the battery pack, and execute the steps again.
