This article only applies to Cyber-shot camera. For Alpha camera, refer to the power will not turn on article.
To troubleshoot the camera, follow these steps and check its status after each one:
- Insert fresh or fully-charged batteries properly.
Note: Camera the power may take a while to turn on as the camera checks its status—this is normal. - If the battery is depleted, recharge and try again.
- Batteries discharge faster in cold weather; charge between 50°F and 86°F (10°C to 30°C) until the CHARGE lamp goes off. Charging may not work properly outside this range.
- Use only Sony batteries and chargers. Counterfeit products may cause accidents or malfunctions, and Sony is not responsible for such issues.
- Replace with new Sony battery.
Wipe away dust with a dry cloth or cotton swab without touching the terminals with your hands or metals. The pictures below are comparisons of clean and dirty terminals.

NOTE: If the CHARGE lamp does not light or blink while charging, the terminals may be dirty.

- Attempt to turn on the camera in Playback/Edit mode by moving the mode switch to the Playback/Edit mode or by pressing the Playback button.
- Switch to Camera mode and try again.
- Connect the AC adapter to the camera and a working electrical outlet (if applicable).
- Connect the camera to a working USB port on a computer and turn it on. If it charges this way, the AC adapter may need replacement.
If the issue is still unresolved, service may be required.
