What are the required settings to use DVgate Plus?
The required settings to use DVgate Plus
Firstly, log on to Windows as a user with administrator access privileges.
Please refer to the following for the recommended settings.
- Configuring the Virtual Memory
Setting the virtual memory to 2048 MB or more is recommended if 30 or more files are to be used.
The available virtual memory settings depend on computers. When making the necessary settings, please ensure that an internal hard disk with sufficient space is specified.
1. Click Start -> Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> System.
2. Click the Advance tab, and in Performance section, click Settings.
3. Click the Advance tab, and in Virtual memory, click Change.
4. In Paging file size for selected drive, specify the desired size in the Maximum size text box .
5. Click Set, and click OK.
6. Click OK to the message that appears and the computer restarts.
- Activate Hard Disk DMA Settings
The steps below shows how to activate DMA transfer on the hard disk and minimize the load on CPU.
1. Click Start -> Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> System.
2. Click the Hardware tab, and click Device Manager.
3. Click IDE ATA /ATAPI Controller and double-click Primary IDE Channel.
5. Click the Advanced Settings tab.
Ensure that in Device 0, Transfer Mode is set to DMA if available.
If the setting is not made, click DMA if available on the list. DMA transfer is activated.
7. Click OK.
If DMA settings are changed, the message Do you want to restart your computer now? message appears. Click Yes to restart Windows.
- Setting the Cache Memory on Hard Disk
1. Click Start -> Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> System.
2. Click the Hardware tab, and click Device Manager.
3. Double-click Disk drives.
4. Double-click the (Maker Name) (Model Number) disk drive.
5. Click the Policies tab and make sure that the Enable write caching on the disk check box is selected.
Select the option if the check box is not selected. Write caching is activated.
6. In the (Maker Name) (Model Number) Properties dialog box, click OK.
7. Close the Device Manager window.
8. In the System Properties dialog box, click OK.
- Create Contiguous Free Disk Space on the Hard Disk
Run Disk Defragmenter or format the destination hard disk or hard disk partition for video captured with DVgate Plus so that there is sufficient contiguous free disk space available.
Lost frames may still occur despite the above settings.
Below are some further settings to prevent frame loss.
- Disconnect All USB Peripherals
Some external USB devices (or their drivers) place a large load on the CPU, and may cause lost frames to occur.
- Close all other softwares
Close all other softwares except DVgate Plus. Please also deactivate or exit programs that regularly update their status and change their displays. For example screensavers, virus checkers and some printer utilities.
- Disconnect the computer from the Network
If a network adapter is used, disconnect the network cable connected to the adapter.
- Disable scheduled tasks
The steps below shows how to disable schedule tasks and prevent them from being performed while DVgate Plus is running.
1. Click Start -> Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance.
2. Click Scheduled Tasks.
3. Double-click the task to disable.
4. Click the Schedule tab.
5. On the Schedule tab, verify whether the date coincides with the schedule to use DVgate Plus. If so, click the Task tab.
6. At the bottom of Task tab, clear the Enabled (scheduled task runs at specified time) check box.
7. Click OK.
- Disabling automatic updating
The steps below shows how to disable automatic updating and prevent it from being performed while DVgate Plus is running.
1. Click Start -> Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> System.
2. Click the Automatic Updates tab.
3. Clear the Keep my computer up to date check box.
4. Click OK.
- Setting the Performance
1. Click Start -> Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> System.
2. Click the Advanced tab, and in the Performance optionsSettings.
3. Select Adjust for best performance and then click OK.
Note:
If the above procedures are carried out, Visual Effects of Windows® XP may no longer function. To use Visual EffectsDVgate Plus, in Step 5, select Let Windows choose what's best for my computer and click OK.
- Power Source and CPU Performance Settings
For portable computers, use the AC power source and set the CPU clock at its highest value.
