Why can't the VAIO computer or VAIO-related products/peripherals be turned on or do not work?

Please perform the following checks if the VAIO computer and VAIO-related products/peripherals cannot be turned on or do not work:

1. Check if the AC adaptor, battery and the power cable are the supplied accessories or genuine optional accessories (hereinafter referred to as genuine products).
- Sony guarantees the normal operation of VAIO computer and VAIO-related product only when genuine adaptor, battery and AC cable are used. We would advise you to use genuine products of Sony since the use of non-genuine products may cause unexpected problems.

2. Check whether the receptacle is live or not with the use of other electrical products.
We would advise you to connect your product directly to the wall outlet as much as possible. In addition, do note that when an AC tap is used, there may be an ON/OFF switch for each jack and/or the entire tap.

3. Check if the latch on the machine is pressed down while the liquid crystal panel is open (only in the case of notebook computers equipped with ACPI).
* PCG-N505** and later models adopting ACPI and PCG-C1XN and later VAIO computers will not start when the latch of the liquid crystal panel on the machine is kept pressed or when the liquid crystal panel is left closed.

4. Some other checks

A. For VAIO computer
- Check if the AC adaptor and the power cable are firmly connected to the product.
- If the computer was moved from a cold place to a warm place, leave the computer in normal room temperature for about an hour before turning it on again as condensation may have taken place.
- If the computer has not been used for a long time, connect the AC adaptor, battery and the power cable up and leave the computer to be recharged. Do not turn the computer on during this recharging process. It takes about half a day (at least 3 hours in order to recharge the backup battery for CMOS).
- For PCG-Z505**, PCG-C**, PCG-F**, PCG-N505** and PCG-FX**
Press the reset switch with a thin object such as a paper clip and then turn the computer on again.
- For the machines other than above.
Keep holding the power switch button down for more than 4 seconds to turn off the computer completely and turn it on again.

B. For Peripherals
- Remove the AC adapter and power cable, leave it for one minute. Then, reconnect again.

When the power indicator stays on
1. Reset the computer if it has the reset function.
* Note
To press the reset switch, you may need a slim staff like a clip. But, never use a staff that may easily break such as lead of a mechanical pencil, as it may cause problems to your machine. Note that resetting may damage the data you created.

2. For VAIO computers without the reset function
Pull the power switch (button) for 4 seconds or more to shut down the computer completely and then turn it on again.

3. When peripherals or expansion devices are connected, turn off the machine to remove all of them, and turn it on again.

4. If additional memory has been added,
- When the user added a genuine memory to the machine by itself, disconnect the power cable from the wall outlet and connect it again. If the memory is not a genuine part, check the computer in the state that the memory is removed. If the removal of the memory improves the symptom, the added memory may cause it. In that case, get in touch with the dealer from which you bought the memory.

5. Disconnect the AC adaptor and battery, leave the machine as it is for about 5 minutes and then reconnect again.

6. If the machine has not been used for a long time, keep it connected to the AC adaptor and battery for at least half a day (3 hours minimum) without turning it on in order to recharge the backup battery of CMOS. If the backup battery of CMOS built in the machine is completely discharged, the machine may not be activated or the system may not start.
