Fantastic in every aspect

Body Only 07 October 2019 by ArturoN (Singapore)

I decided to travel light. I'm a user of DSLRs .... and until now almost no small cameras could compete with the fast focusing of DSLRs. Well.... this small wonder can! Really top quality images and amazing fast and precise focusing.

Autofocus doesn't work for selfies using timer

DSC-RX100M7 31 December 2019 by Laicey (United Kingdom)

The 'unrivaled AF' doesn't apply to selfies taken using the timer function. When you walk to the camera to press the button on timer it'll focus on your hand not when it takes the picture. Continuous autofocus is of course disabled on timer and there seems no option to get the thing to focus when the picture is taken like if you just had someone press the button after 10 seconds. There are few remote shutter options for the M7 unless you want the complicated Sony one that is bigger than the camera. If you have someone pressing the button for you it's a good little camera with impressive autofucus. It guesses the scene wrong sometimes but that can be set in the options if it starts prefering the landscape to the model.

Compact quality and versatility

DSC-RX100M7 13 November 2024 by dilettante (United Kingdom)

I bought this camera as an upgrade to my original RX100 and the M7 has all of those characteristics that made that camera so good and a ton of very valuable additional features consistent with such an evolved line of cameras. Anyone who shares my love of small, dense Japanese product design will be happy with the hardware. Subtly curved surfaces and tiny details, positive button feel, precise screen articulation and a smooth lens ring. All of the tiny slack that was present here and there on the M1 are banished on the M7. One small gripe is directed at the covers to the ports. Stiff, nail-breaking flaps that resolutely want to spring back, blocking access to the sockets. They are loosening up a bit but some proper hinged flaps would have been nice. Displays are good and the tiny viewfinder is terrific for framing in bright light. The articulation of the screen is so helpful for composing shots at odd angles, a feature that I use a great deal. These two make the M7 a much more versatile tool than most. The zoom range is just what I want from a compact travel camera, especially at the long end, and lens quality is what I would expect from Zeiss. Picture quality is excellent across the zoom range with only slight distortions at the extremes. Noise is well controlled and easy to eliminate using the current AI tools. You can have a great deal of control in the setup if you need it and I found a good set of assignments that make managing the camera comfortable and convenient. Overall a very satisfying camera to use that returns detailed and attractively rendered images in all conditions, and is a pleasure to own. While I have other, more capable Sony cameras, I can see from my own results that the RX100-M7 goes a long way to being the only camera a lot of people will ever need.

Lovely little camera

DSC-RX100M7 11 November 2024 by JennSL (United Kingdom)

I wanted a camera small enough to take with me in my pocket but which would give good quality imagse. I'm pleased with the quality I've managed to get, even in the dull light we've had for the last few weeks. The 'expose for highlights' setting has proved particularly useful, although of course the images then need some post-processing to bring the shadows up. Impressive amount of detail in th eimages with or without zoom. I had a quick look at a video online before I visited the shop to have a look at the camera - it's pretty intuitive but I hadn't owned a Sony before. It's been quick and easy to pick up and navigate the menu.

A great compact camera

DSC-RX100M7 08 November 2024 by JEADAMS (United Kingdom)

This VII is replacing a V and I wish I had upgraded when the VII was introduced. I was waiting for at VIII to come out, but happened upon someone who had the V11 and this made my mind up to purchase. A great zoom facility on such a small camera and the quality of photograph is excellent. The camera allows beginners to just point and shoot, whilst for professionals it is a great tool to simply fit into a pocket.

Blazing fast autofocus

Body Only 03 November 2024  (Singapore)

As it has been often touted, it’s a mini a9 in a compact camera. And I have to say, after using it for about 2 weeks, I am totally impressed with the image quality and speed at which it acquires focus. And the blackout free burst mode is truly amazing. If there is one downside, it’s that the camera is so compact that it’s slippery and tiny in the hand. But that can is also its main attraction, making it inconspicuous and less “threatening” when taking photographs on the streets.

Best Pocket Camera for professional photographers.

Body Only 03 November 2024 by johaziz (Singapore)

I have been keeping an on the RX100 since mark 1. I thought it was it and never expect it to iterates till mark 7. That shows how serious Sony is to make it almost perfect. I just got to have it before it disappears from the shelves. I never regret it. My top features are the bright and sharp EVF, the 180° tilt LCD, the excellent Zeiss lens and all the pro features in the menu like its big brother the A9. It's a pity there will be no mark 8 with full touch screen.

Excellent pocket size camera

DSC-RX100M7 02 November 2024 by JohnRW (United Kingdom)

I purchased this to replace my RX100 m3 when the flash stopped working This is umpteen times better than the m3 for functionality, zoo, touch screen focus etc, and goes a long way towards a full size top end camera range.

A quality DSLR in my pocket

DSC-RX100M7 01 November 2024 by Davej64 (United Kingdom)

I wanted something that did more or less what my Canon DLSR does, but I needed it to be smaller and more portable, as I have got to the stage where, often, no longer pack my DLSR and additional lenses when I go out hiking because I don't want the additional weight and bulk. Basically, I got to the stage where I would think "I can take decent RAW photos on my iPhone". What I was missing, though, is the creative control you have with a DSLR. I did dome research and discovered the Sony RX-100 VII. It truly is a pocket size DSLR. It has a focal range of 24mm-200mm and gives me virtually all of the control that my DSLR gives me i.e. aperture and shutter priority, depth of field, focus control, exposure control and exposure lock and so many more. The picture quality is excellent. It also has a host other photographic auto modes that deliver fantastic JPEG photos for times when you just need to snap something quickly. Then there are all the video capabilities. One more thing I will mention, it has a pop up viewfinder, which lets me use the camera the same way as I use my DSLR for most shots, although the Live View screen on the back of the camera is excellent as well. I could go on and on about this camera. It is a photographic gem and it goes everywhere with me now.

Produces either overexposed or underexposed images

Body Only 17 October 2024 by DRLL (Philippines)

First, I'd like to commend the fact that it's portable and packs a lot in a small form factor. However, that's the only great thing about this camera. It lacks modern features such as a USB Type-C port. This camera produces either overexposed or underexposed images even on Auto and Factory Default settings. It also produces a warmer color, which is evident no matter what screen I view the photos. I don't usually edit photos after they are taken. I am disappointed as it is marketed as frequently sold out due to high demand due to great photos, etc., but I can't see its value anymore, as it is more expensive than other cameras with better photo quality output. If only there's a way to return it and get a refund, I would happily do so.

Faulty EVF

Body Only 12 October 2024 by Roo23 (Singapore)

I really love the camera, the range and features of the camera. But i bought mine w a defective EVF. Sent into sony store for repairs, they changed the EVF, but didnt install it right. I had to send in my camera for repairs for 3 times just for an EVF repairs. Very disappointed in the quality of the service. I wrote in a feedback, and have not receive an answer from sony as well. Overall would really wish they upgraded the camera to have a hotshoe mount and also type c charging.

The product struggles in low-light conditions, and the surface is overly smooth, making it prone to slipping. I almost dropped it a few times. However, aside from these issues, its features are good - 7/10 overall

Excellent Quality

DSC-RX100M7 05 October 2024 by KLWS (United Kingdom)

I recently acquired the Sony Rx100 vii and am most pleased with the quality of the photos taken on it. It has everything I am looking for in a compact camera. It is small and lightweight and is equipped with an electronic viewfinder and flash. I take a lot of macro photography and have been very pleased with the ease of use and the incredible definition. It’s an expensive camera but you get what you pay for.

Exceptional Image Quality

DSC-RX100M7 01 October 2024 by M5000 (United Kingdom)

The image and video quality is exceptional. Unfortunately you need to purchase Sony's "stick on grip" to make the camera useable, it would be very easy to drop without this. Have taken about 900 photos with no issues however last time out it froze and I had to remove the battery. Looking on the internet this seems an issue. Using a SanDisk Extreme Pro cards.

Misleading Cash-back Offer and poor customer servi

DSC-RX100M7 23 September 2024 by Travel Pics (United Kingdom)

No problems at all with the camera. A good bit of kit. But I purchased with the £100 cash-back offer and Sony seem to use every excuse possible for not honouring the offer. Firstly I had to send a pic of the camera showing the serial number. Then they wanted a pic of the box. The latest is them wanting a pick of the camera, showing the serial number and being hand held- this is quite tricky to to with a mobile phone. SO BUYER BEWARE

Almost perfect

DSC-RX100M7 17 September 2024 by Meljaye (United Kingdom)

This is by far the best compact camera I have ever owned. I found adding a stick on grip to the front made it easier to handle. The only thing I would change about it is the fact that when taking photos in landscape mode, if you are wearing polarised sunglasses, the screen appears black. (In an earlier model I own, this occurred when taking photos in portrait mode. As I take more shots in landscape mode, I would have preferred Sony not to have made this change.)

Extraordinary camera with no rivals.

DSC-RX100M7 13 September 2024 by Nils J (United Kingdom)

I bought this camera a couple of months ago and I'm glad I did. I wish I had bought it years ago. It has a 24-200mm lens (35mm equivalent) but yet is one of the smallest cameras you can buy. The lens is very sharp, all settings. Auto focus fast and accurately. It has excellent pop up EVF, nice to use. Taken some 3,000 (street) photographs so far. Very pleased with the results. An incredible camera with no rivals. Some flaws however. The camera needs a firmware update. I believe there has never been a firmware update since its launch five years ago. For example: Flaw #1. On MR settings 1, 2, and 3 etc, if you switch the camera off at 200mm zoom setting, the camera will return to 200mm when you switch it on. Not good, as 99% of the time you will wish to switch the camera on again at 24mm zoom setting, not 200mm. On PASM and AUTO settings the camera DOES return to 24mm setting even if switched off at 200mm zoom setting. Flaw #2. If you use exposure compensation on lens dial (or elsewhere) the compensation stays set even after you switch the camera off. Not good. Many images are ruined because I shot the first few frames (after switching camera off & back on again) with exposure compensation still set. It should always return to ZERO after switching off camera. If user wishes to have ALL images ALWAYS plus/minus compensation, then use the separate setting provided in Menu for this. Flaw #3. RAW files do not render in Photo Mechanic. I have used many cameras, all render their RAW files in Photo Mechanic. The Sony RX100 is a camera which will be purchased by many serious amateurs and professionals. I am a professional and I have used Photo Mechanic for twenty years. Every professional colleague I know uses Photo Mechanic. It is not good that RAW files do not render in Photo Mechanic. The only workaround for this flaw is to shoot RAW + JPG and view JPGs.
